How to Change your Start Button.

REMEMBER TO BACK UP EXPLORER.EXE!

Works With both x86 and x64!

1. Download Restorator (http://www.bome.com/Restorator/)

2. Take ownership of the whole Windows folder (see these links for more info: http://www.blogsdna.com/2159/how-to-take-ownership-grant-permissions-to-access-files-folder-in-windows-7.htm and http://www.blogsdna.com/2173/add-take-ownership-option-in-right-click-context-menu-of-windows-7.htm)

3. Open explorer.exe with restorator

4. Go to the folder called "Bitmap"

5. Replace 6801.bmp, 6805.bmp and 6809.bmp

6. Go to "file" and Save as explorer.exe on your desktop

7. Go to the windows folder and rename explorer.exe to explorer.exe.bak and then copy-paste the new explorer, Kill the process in task manager and start it again.

Now you have a new start button!

We dont need to take ownership of the whole windows folder for changing the start button...

Yes, you can... but not on .exe File. Wink

(At least not in the simple way over the context-menu right-click... it's a bit complicate there)

You can take ownership of explorer.exe by right clicking it---properties---security---advance---owner and giving yourself full acess in permissions

Sergio. In Number 5 where you say replace do you mean first coping the new start orb and then pasting the new orb in 6801,6805,and 6809 ? Or is there another way of replacing those with the new start orb ?

Yes...just paste your new .bmp and save when you've finished

Oh, bummer, it's just that I couldn't find the "attachment" feature This is a direct link... China and its internet censorship, it's not a good place to surf freely, there are means you can use to circumvent that, really simple means, but talking about it here will do me no good, there are activists against internet censorship worldwide that even say that people should use those means because they have the right to......
Anyways if that link doesn't work please point me to one that works for you.
